I WOULDN'T BE THE HAWELKA WITHOUT MY WIFE ...
Leopold Hawelka
.WE SPENT OUR HONEYMOON IN THE COFFEE HOUSE AND ALSO LIVED THERE, BECAUSE WE HAD NOT THE MONEY.
Josefine Hawelka
Cafe Hawelka in Vienna's 1st district represents one of the last great Central European traditions of literary and artistic coffee houses, such as Cafe Central before the First World War and Cafe Herrenhof before the Second World War. It is still run by the Hawelka family, as Leopold Hawelka and his wife Josefine once did 80 years ago when they opened the cafe
I was in Vienna this weekend and met friends from Germany.
Since a visit to Vienna includes a visit to a cafe, we visited the famous Cafe Hawelka. Despite its fame, it is still a cosy cafe ..... the outside world that has changed, not Cafe Hawelka. It still represents a refuge for many artists, writers and musicians.
The picture above the waiter (top right) shows Josefine & Josef Hawelka.
thanks for looking
