Lake Almsee
The Lake Almsee and the Tote Gebirge in the background offer a fascinating, wonderful landscape. But not only because of this beautiful scenery the area around the Lake Almsee has been declared a nature reserve. Islands, muddy surfaces and the strongly sectioned vegetation belt with the adjacent wetlands offer ideal habitats for a species-rich world of birds; siltation areas and wet meadows are preferred breeding and feeding grounds. Besides a species-rich fauna we can also observe a varied flora around the Lake Almsee. Particularly interesting is the common sundew, a carnivorous plant. The Âswimming island is another one of a kind of Lake Almsee: it consists in a driftwood mass covered by cotton grass, sundew and small spruces and birches.
