Liberation ceremony at the former Mauthausen concentration camp

By bliba

77 years ago, US troops liberated the Mauthausen concentration camp. On Sunday, relatives of victims, church dignitaries and official Austria will commemorate the victims. "Political Resistance" is the title of this year's largest concentration camp liberation celebration worldwide.
The liberation anniversary is a mission for the present and the future.....

"Many people ask, 'How can we best honour the memory of those who had to die under National Socialism because they were murdered?' And I think we can do that best by standing up, getting involved, not remaining silent in the face of discrimination and racism - or sitting down, picking up our mobile phones or using our PCs to counter the hatred on the net." This is how we can honour these people, "through our commitment to a world of peace",

Perfectly presented reportage, both words and photograph.
Fascism is alive and well, I'm afraid.

Good reportage, Oliver. It will be a moving commemoration for the victims on Sunday, as there cannot be many still alive, who were imprisoned there. There could be relatives attending, with their memories. It is good, that they still mark the liberation of the camp.

If only....Silly to think....but wouldn't it be wonderful if scientists could invent a kindness pill. One that killed off bad thoughts and only left the good ones. Excellent reportage.

We have to remember the sacrifice and not just within the lifetimes of those who suffered but forever.

Such losses span the generations and become a living history. Sadly we are all living through times again that those heroic people gave their lives to stop. Let's hope we all do what we can to support the people of the Ukraine.

Well done reportage Oliver.

Such an important day to honour . Poignant that the man’ s face is hidden as the Nazis tried to erase so many off the face of the earth.
And You are so right Ollie …none of us are free if one of us is chained .
Best regards
Walt
