the red carpet,my wife and the restaurator

Albertina/ Museum/ Vienna

No, the red carpet is neither a new invention nor a few centuries old. Its history goes back thousands of years to ancient Greece. Who would have thought it? The first mention of the red carpet is in the Greek history "Agamemnon". It won the Trojan War. To celebrate the occasion, his wife rolled out a long red carpet in front of the palace to welcome Agamemnon. This became a tradition and was used again and again for victorious returnees from the war. In addition, depressed monarchs spread out their red cloaks as a sign of subservience to the war winners. This, too, became more and more a custom and can be compared to rolling out the red carpet.

The tradition with the red carpet has been carried out many times until today to honor and celebrate certain people. Finally, this custom was also adopted by the music and film industry.

Why the color red?
Now the question arises why red carpets and red coats were used and not other colors like black, blue or yellow. This is because red was considered the color of the gods at that time and therefore had a special position. This is certainly one reason why the red color was kept, because stars are finally adored like gods by their fans and the press on the red carpet. Not only because it was the color of the gods, but also because red was considered to be special because the production of red carpets required a lot of work. Red was extracted from the dye purple. This is contained in the glandular secretion of the pupal snail, which lives in the sea. To extract one gram of the dye purple, 10,000 snails were needed. The extraction and dyeing process also took very long. These were the reasons why the dye was so expensive and why it was only worn by higher ranking persons such as monarchs, senators and clergymen.

thanks for looking

I have received quite an eduction on red carpets and the colour red from your notes. It is something you tend to accept, without thinking of the reason why it has been adopted over the years. An excellent image with the sweeping red carpet leading you towards your wife and into the image.

Beautifully balanced composition and an interesting discourse on the history of red carpets. The contrast between living beings and the formal sculpture, particularly the arid busts, is more than striking.
Excellent.

I am momentarily side-tracked by the thought of how many snails would be needed for this...
The restorer is working in a very private world. Meanwhile the two of you are having fun. Love this, it's life-affirming.

Receiving the adoration of her fans and minions. The one-legged (Wink) restorer, deferentially keeping to one side. No doubt you were bowing and backing before her, not insulting her by turning your back to her.Wink
