Great use of the contrasting elements of "light," and "dark," as the understated -- and unassuming -- quietly clashing (and even -- when we least expect it -- sometimes "casually" surrendering their seemingly irrevocable, and implacable, distant hostility) -- for a very intimate "moment," of very profoundly, sensual "slow dancing." Like the highly visible elements of "light" and "dark," that casually -- and inevitably segue into each other -- "sensuality" permeates, and "swirls" about the entire image. Beautiful image, Krystal. (By the way, have you ever seen the dance scene -- performed in the "fantasy," October celebration of "Neewollah" -- in a small Midwestern town, park in glow of the evening hours, between William Holden and Kim Novak?) Easily one of the most sensually evocative scenes ever caught on film. Your image brought that scene to mind, for me.

Dylan.

Dylan, so lovely to read your comments. You always give me something to think about or look up and the movie Picnic is one of them. I saw the very scene you describe on Youtube and loved it so much... I love the sensuality of their encounter, the way they come together in rhythm, the way he cups her hand and holds it to his chest, to his heart... the captivating look, the wonderful energy between them, the way he leads in the dance. Very subtle very delicious. Kim Novak's pink dress does remind me of the lines and flow of the pink crystal bowl, the transparency and the light as it contrasts with the dark of night. Of course William Holden is the anchor in this... perfectly cast. Krystal
