Krimmel Falls - Austria - 20/08/2003

By Bowline
It wasn't until after I had finished sorting this image in Photoshop, that I noticed the people on the opposite bank. That made me realise just how majestic these falls are. I also realised I had made a risky ascent in order to get the shot. I suppose I was safe enough, but I didn't realise until later, that there was a sheer drop about five yards ahead of me; straight into the river!

Theses falls are the tallest in Austria. They are also subject to freezing in Winter. The icy cold water starts from the Krimmler Ache glacier and there are three main drops, over a total of 380 metres. During the Summer months these are flowing, but in the middle of Winter the sun rarely reaches the falls.

Lovely shot of the Krimmel Waterfall hasn't changed much in the 20 odd years since I visited it.

Thanks for that correction Steve. I hadn't noticed! Better not go so close again then!

My thanks in general for the comments folks.

Looks like a thunderous drop of Falls . Very well taken . The larger view is breath-taking and added bonus of being able to see the tiny people for scale on the opposite bank . " Fools rush in " glad you weren't aware of the shear drop till afterwards Smile
