HMS Liverpool.

By martinjp
On Sunday Bev and I took to Liverpool to board the type 42 Destroyer, HMS Liverpool, one of two open days to the public, prior to her being scrapped in Portsmouth. This image is that of the stern flag and gun. The young lad is receiving some professional shooting practice, whilst his parents look on! We were both in awe of this great ship and left quite deflated for it's demise...a sad end to a career spanning 30 years. Thanks for my clicks and comments for my Cormorant, as ever, much appreciated.

A terrible shame, I agree. This is a lovely capture.

Very well composed and captured image. (Was actually typing "shot" when I realised that was perhaps too much of a pun!)Tongue

Looks like you had good weather for it Martin.
Good shot.
But I fear stormy days ahead for the Armed Services now !!

Grand capture, Martin.

We will never forget this day, especially the sailors we met.
It was such a privilege to go on board and meet some of the crew.
I watched the ship leaving Liverpool on Utube and it was an emotional event.
It's a shame to witness the end of a Naval ship's 30 year commission. Why couldn't they decide to place it into a dry dock, to grow old gracefully rather than scrapping it. You would have thought this a more fitting end to the HMS Liverpool. I'm surprised that the people of Liverpool didn't petition to keep the ship in their city.

sad, a shame really - but not your picture.
that is a tad soft, but the composition invokes the Ivo Jima memorial!
