I did find a shot for this month. This was in the pics I took the day a departed for war. My dog Bolillo had this sad face all day and at the last moment as I was getting out of the house he jumped and looked at my, like begging for me not to go.

this is one cute dog and judging from the eyes its as loyal as can be. i have uploaded a mod for you as there were a couple of things that I personally thought could enhance the image, firstly changing the b/g and the other was removing the collar and id badge. I decided that a black b/g would be most appropriate and thought mono would add to the sense of longing, as you say it was shot the day you left so I think the mono gives it that sense of distance and sadness
cheers Ian

It can be hard to leave them behind! At least you can explain to the wife where you're going, what you're going to be doing (leaving out the details as appropriate) and why you're doing it. The big eyes say it all from those that can't understand.

From a technical point of view I like the photo but find the pink tag distracting. I like the way the nose is slightly out of focus, dogs noses are usually just that little bit too close as they sniff you out, and it draws you into those expressive eyes.

I think I would mod it to just remove the tag, I find Imander's disembodied head a little disconcerting Smile

critique buddie
Not much more I can add as far as improving it is concerned. Its a heart-wrenching tale you tell about her not wanting you to leave..I am sure it will be quite the opposite when you return home..and keeping her still to pose will be nigh on impossible, hehe...she will be too happy to see you.
Technically if you can get the eyes sharp you are onto a winner... the sad eyes here draw you in.
I have just done a little mod - sharpened it a bit and darkened a bit using curves.

A good shot of the dog and must admit the dog did look sad.

There were a couple of things that niggled me. These are personal choices for me rather than faults with the shot. The angle seemed wrong so in the mod I flipped it. There seemed to be too much of the dog so I cropped in closer and the background was intrusive so I blurred it a bit.

These are personal choices; others make think the exact opposite.

What a sweet dog. There is a real look of longing on her face. They are so perseptive and she clearly knew you were going away again. Just wondered whether she may have a touch of red eye (green in dogs and cats) that could be altered in ps.

The moment captured here tells the viewer a lot about the relationship you have with your dog. The technical aspects of the shot are the main points of critique here for me. The bright flash has given the eyes that eerie green reflectance, as well as blowing out the breast and casting a strong shadow on the floor. I think it would be worth trying to get a similar shot using natural light.
