Just seenn this after your yesterday's version. How different the area looks in b/w - almost sinister this time. I really like the slight hazy look.

Good luck! Sues

Lovely serene image. I like the diagonal effect of the jetty coming out from the RH side.

Personally, I would have cropped a bit of the sky ( to just above the pine tree on the right) to give a semi-panoramic view but thats an observation not a criticism.

Well done and good luck.

Here are the results for the Junior Competition:

Overall I have been very impressed with the entries, you certainly did not make it easy for me to pick the winners! There is a nice mix of good technical skill with the cameras, good compositions and a good eye for a subject. You should all be pleased with what you produced. There's a few portfolios that I'll come back to cee how you're getting on. Oh and if you ever have some questions about B&W photography or want some help feel free to PM me.

5th Place: Wilmot
4th Place: Seb97
3rd Place: Tamar
2nd Place: marco_delvalle1
1st place: littlejennywren

Honourable mentions:

Woolyback: A nice use of the patterns of the Zebra for an abstract composition. An even tighter crop would be something worth considering.

Tishtashbishbash: Nice use of the soft light to show the flower off, but a little soft in focus

marco_delvalle1: A very strong abstract composition, you made great use of the strong light as it compliments the hard shapes within the image. A very nice shot, congrats on getting 2nd place!

Miggeymouse: Nicely seen on the textures and shapes in the tree, you’ve really brought them out.

jonah794: You’ve caught a nice moment between your cousin and uncle. A slight shift in viewpoint, to include more of the window on the right would really add some nice space and a sense of looking back at where they have been, nicely seen though.

Wilmot: A very strong composition, that makes very good use of the diagonals and blur for a sense of speed. A little lift in the mid and dark tones would really help lift this shot. Congrats on 5th place!

Foxtolbot: it's a very interesting effect, and well done for trying something different, although it is a little too busy overall.

ShadowTaya: You picked the right part to keep the selective colour on and you’ve got an image that has a nice sense of fun to it. A slight boost to the contrast would also help the picture.

Tamar: A nicely converted scene. I like the use of light and dark tones within this shot to give a sense of drama. Overall, this is a very nice B&W landscape, which is not the easiest of subjects to tackle, congrats on getting 3rd place.

BethMN: Overall you have some nice tones and light in this, you’ve gone for an interesting composition that does work, an even tighter crop and composition could work even better.

Littlejennywren: A very very strong portrait of your cat. You’ve got a lot of detail in this shot and it has fantastic lighting that really works with the profile shot you have, really separating the cat from the background. You also can sense some of the personality of the cat too, well done on a very well deserved first place!

Motorsportspictures: This was one of the strong contenders for a prize, I like the sense of speed you have got here, and it works really well with the smoke from the tyres.

Scotyboy: Nice light you have in this image, you have captured a good feel to the blacks and whites.

Abz96x: Nice use of the centre of the flower to give you a contrast in tones and make use of the flowers shape. This is one subject where a perfectly centred composition would really work very well.

Uboat: Another of the contenders here, you’ve blended these images very well, the sky and Lancasters work very well together and the image has a dark brooding feel to it that fits the subject.

RyanPO: You’ve chosen an interesting viewpoint for your subject. I like how you have included the sheet music in the background it has really set the scene for your subject.

Bradfleet12: You’ve picked a subject that can be quite hard in B&W, the landscape. You’ve done very well here, with a strong composition making the most of the jetty. It is a pity that there was not a more interesting sky that day for you.

Charteris: You’ve captured a nice moment here, there is a very strong sense of emotion in the dogs pose and gaze. Well done!

Daniella: You can see the fun that they are having in the image and it is a nice moment. A little more eye contact with you would really help here.

RhysHerbertPhotography: You’ve got a clear and strong composition here, and done well given the bright and contrasty conditions. Given the amount of detail in the sky it might have been nice to have a wider composition to make more of it.

Lolz: You’ve made good use of the water drops here, they can really add to this sort of close up shot, a little on the soft side, but well seen.

Seb97: Well this shot I really like for its soft atmosphere. You’ve got a really nice feeling to this that is really strengthened by your bold composition. You look to have a good eye and view things in a little bit of a different way. Congrats on getting 4th place!

Mole1999: Good timing on this shot, you’ve captured him at a good moment, a good smile and nice eye contact

Mushroomgirl: I like that you have made a triptych here, it really suits the subject and the lines and structure of the subject

Gardner: Nice poses in both dogs, it is not the easiest to get one looking at you, so well done on your timing for getting both!

BethanfromEbbw: A nice subject you’ve chosen here. You’ve got some nice detail in the statue, which would be really helped if you could get some detail in the background too.

Alianar: You’ve handled the difficult lighting conditions well, as strong backlighting can be very difficult to deal with. I’d like to have seen more of the other horses too, perhaps this would be even better as a landscape format rather than portrait.

stevoe_mc: Another of the shortlisted entries for me. A good strong graphic image and a well chosen subject for a Black and White shot.

Manni1996: You’ve done well at not letting the whites of the cats fur not get burnt out here.

GemmaBee: Nice eye contact with your brother here, and you have tried something different with the pose. Nice catchlights in his eyes and the lighting works well overall.

Macximilious_XXII: This was a very strong contender for me; it’s the type of shot that would really benefit from someone popping their head round the corner of the arch You have captured a lot of detail and interest in the brick work here, and the image is well exposed and processed, very well done.
