Racing Wasp

By brian1208
I got this shot a few days back and have just got around to looking at it.

Two things that I found interesting:

I wouldn't have thought it possible to get the level of detail without a dedicated macro lens.

The other thing was the streamlined shape of the wasp's body - I've never seen that body contour before, reminds me of the pre-war Auto-Union recing cars.

(I'm assunmng it is a Queen Wasp and not a Hornet?)

Very impressive, but then this IS the 70-200 F Wink

Did you extension tubes, or is this heavily cropped? Or is the wasp THAT big?

Execlent Brian.

Thanks for your comments.

Sorry Matt, should have said, its a massive crop, only about 10% of full frame (We get big wasps down here - but not that large! Smile ) I've been playing with tubes but haven't found how to get the best results yet.

I've put the original full frame image up as a variant, for interest
