So Close!

By briantjjones
Humpback whale taken in Aukes Bay Alaska Aug 2012. This whale suddenly appeared from nowhere and was so close to the boat and with my 100mm - 400mm telephoto I could not zoom out quick enough to get all the tail in Sad

try making it more colourful or giving to it a dramatic look...I don't know if it will be better, but give a try Wink

Wow, what an amazing sight, with nature being so unpredictable we cannot always get the perfect shot, its still stunning well captured!!!!Grin

You was there and that's what counts, caught out by the unpredictability of nature, very very few will ever get to see this sight and some are complaining that you did not get the whole tail in, unbelievable.

Fantastic image. So close you can smell the sea!

I would prefer no vignette, - the shot is slightly under, so it doesnt add anything for me, so I removed most of it. I slightly altered colour balance, a little warmer, and sharpened.
Your original may well be sharper than the version here, as compression may have affected sharpness, so its good to remember to check sharpness after re sizing, and before uploading so you can compensate. This would look great as a print.

I like that you can't see the whole tail. It makes it different from usual wale shots. I love this GrinGrinGrin

Well shot in the short time you seem to have had, I would be happy just to be there.
