I have just returned from a lovely holiday at Old Park Hotel in St Lawrence, near Ventnor, Isle of Wight. Every evening, at the hotel, these badgers can be seen, from behind the glass doors, having a banquet, on the hotel patio.
As the scraps are being put out, many glowing eyes can be seen, in the surrounding bushes. As soon as the ’coast’ is clear the badgers run across the lawns, like a stampeding herd, and soon begin enjoying their evening meal.
They are difficult to count, as some go away, satisfied, as others arrive to take their turn. I managed to count 17, but I think that there were more. The badgers were very well behaved, no fighting, but a bit of pushing and jostling.
It was an unusual sight, but was good after evening meal entertainment.
I have submitted these pictures, not for their technical merit as they were taken in very low light, no flash, and through the glass door, but for their cuteness and un-usualness factor.
I hope that you enjoy the pictures as much as I, and the other guests, did when watching the badgers.
