COBBOLD GORGE, QUEENSLAND AUSTRALIA

By BRITCHIE
This gorge is about 6km long with 30m cliffs on either side and is 2m wide at its narrowest point. the water maintains a fairly constant level and is fed by springs that seep through the 200 million year old sandstone and reach the gorge 30 years later.
there was plenty of wildlife to see, we saw a few archer fish, a baby turtle and plenty of lazy freshwater crocodiles.
there are beautiful camping and caravan sites on this homestead, even cabins for those who don't wish to rough it.
the ranch runs a massive cattle station with around 20 000 plus head of cattle.

A well composed and very interesting image of this wonderful geological creation.
A rugged and most beautiful part of the world, Bernie.
I like the 'gargoyle' face with the hooked nose, square jaw and deep set eye, towards the top right corner!

The rock formations speak of great geological turbulence in it`s past, both with the vertical strata, and the overlaying of sandstone by lava. Beautiful photo`s!! Regards Martin
