for me this works realy well, its well composed and sits nicely in the frame.
the detail is good and the plumage of the bird works well with the foreground and background colour of its habitat.
well caught.

Ok, looks much better on this screen than your work laptop Gav. Colours look good in the FG and the Curlew, but the sky perhaps a little more magenta in the mix than I would expect. Not distractingly so, but I mention because of your comment earlier on colour balance.

You made the best of a wet & miserable day then! I can almost hear that haunting call drifting across the wide open (rain-drenched) moorland. Your shot gives a great feeling of being out in a wilderness.

I agree the sky looks a tad on the magenta side but that should be easily fixed. I daresay, from what you've said, it was just a plain boring grey sky. Not much you can do about that really.

Like it a lot - great captured and good timing. I wonder if it would have been improved by closer cropping. Still a great picture either way
