Found this little fella on our settee. When I transfered him to a piece of paper, he played dead for about 5 mins. This gave me chance to get all of the camera settings just how I wanted them, and when he livened up again, this was the result. Hope you like it as much as I do :O)

Excellent shot of a good subject matter. Elytra and pronotum pin sharp. Might have been able to kill shadow by using a white plastic bottle surrounding the betle and side lighting. The bottle acts as a diffuser (camera above shoot through middle). By varing the distance of the lights, can get some cool effects. Great though.

Thanks all, very much appreciate your comments. I must admit Neil, that I do like the shadow myself, but it's a great tip you've given us for any future shots, cheers

With it not being black Alan not sure what it is !!!!!Sure it is a beetle but what sort . I'd go loopy if that was on my sofa . Maybe it is one that made your floor boards need replacing ? A great macro though Smile) Ugh !!!

Its a weevil of some kind, (looks a bit like a "Pea Weevil" Sitona lineatus). It says in my book: "Sometimes invades buildings in Autumn".

Its a good sharp image and well done for photographing rather than squelching it Smile

Spot on Brian, well done. What book do you have, I'd be interested to add any I don't have to my collection.
Thanks as ever Mavis, I don't really think you'd go loopy, the poor things are only about 10mm long

I have the Collins Gem Insects & Butterflies and Readers Digest Wild-life of Britain collection. If that fails I hunt the web (Natural History Museum are very helpful I find)
