Nestled under the foot of the eastern Pap, Lough Glannafreaghaun bathes in a pool of showery sunshine. The Irish name for the Paps is "Dá Chích Anann" or the breasts of Anu. Anu or Anann was a goddess of fertility, cattle, and prosperity, and was known for comforting and teaching the dying. Fires were lit for her during Midsummer. The survival of this place-name into Modern Irish bears testimony of the association of the goddess Anann with the province of Munster.
