a wander through the inula meadow

By CarolG
Dittrichia viscosa, otherwise known as aromatic inula or sticky fleabane, is a common plant throughout the Mediterranean. It is a very tough plant, very resistant to adverse conditions, and is an important food for the caterpillars of certain butterflies and moths. Despite the fresh-looking green colour of its leaves and its attractive inflorescence, this plant is sticky and has a certain smell that most people find unpleasant. It contains an essential oil and has been used in traditional medicines since ancient times, especially as an astringent. A well known Catalan proverb reads…..the grapes are ripe when the yellow fleabane blooms.
V's 1-7 are various butterflies and critters that I photographed during a half hour walk through this meadow, V.8 is a montage of all the butterflies seen and captured enjoying the inula.

More butterflies there in your wonderful montage than most of us ever see in a lifetime.
Even a Clouded Yellow? which I've seen the 'butterfly specialists' search for this summer!
The bee image too is lovely - you just make it look so easy!!

What...an amazing...upload! First off, very interesting info about the inula, Carol. Second, it seems almost a shame to lump all these together 'cos so many of these deserve their own airing, IMHO.

Incredible captures these are and of course the montage is stun-ning. I have to give an extra WOW to V3.

Thanks for this treat for our eyes SmileSmile

We've really been spoiled by this fantastic selection Carol, the montage v8 and the pristine clouded yellow v6 are my favourites. I think some of these could get an airing again sometime when the weather is bad and you are short of images, which will never happen due to your extensive library!Grin
