I'm off!

By CarolG
A lot of clearing up yesterday after the gales, I lost one pine tree, two eucalyptus, my beloved lemon tree, one clematis and numerous other small plants, and still have a lot to sort out, but Iím getting there slowly. Apologies for only voting yesterday, but all day was spent clearing/tidying the garden as well as possible.
Something good came out of yesterday, though. I was clearing the pool when I saw a tiny critter crawling up the side, but it was too small to see what it was. I scooped it onto a leaf and took it indoors, because there was every likelihood that it would have been blown away if I had tried to photograph it outside. I took a few images, and then realized that it was the tiniest and cutest little clanger (weevil) that I have ever seen. I managed a few clicks before it flew onto the window, obviously wanting to get back outside. I was delighted when I discovered that I had managed to capture it with its wings unfurled, ready to take off. Vís 2 & 3 are not good images, but it was too small for my little point and shoot to do it any justice. I have included V.4 as an indication of its size, taken alongside a sewing pin.

I think you have a magic image with V1..
Great timing good DOF...
Shutter speed looks great to give you detail in the wings..
Very nice colours and tones...
The comp is spot on...
A stunning image and that only V1...
A great set of images including the size of the little man next to the pin..
That shows me you have a great macro lens on your little point and shoot camera...
Magic work...

Had no idea about the stormy conditions Carol. What a delightful capture. As you say, it puts it into perspective when you see how tiny this little insect is. It is always so difficult to capture insects with their wings outstretched or even flying off so this is a fantastic image.

A brilliant set of images, very difficult to put my finger on a favourite, but I think version 2 has the edge and my humble vote, simply because you know whats going to happen next......

What an absolute sweetheart. Well done for managing to capture, in both senses of the word, this lovely little clanger. It looks particularly pretty in V2 but it's great seeing the wings in V1 - great shot. Smile
You must be whacked out doing all that clearing up after being so ill too. Hope you're going to put your feet up today.
