the runaround!

By CarolG
For those of you who didnít know, these little clangers, when approached, drop to the ground as though dead, and disappear from sight in the long grass. This chap was no exception, as soon as I advanced, down he would go. I left the area where I spotted him and returned a few minutes later, not once, but four times, and each time I returned I noticed he had crawled back up a stem to sit in the sun, but still insisted on dropping as soon as he saw me. I persisted, and on the 5th attempt, he agreed to let me pick the grass that he was perched on, and let me take a few images. As a bonus, he perched on my hand for a short while before flying into the distance.

It isn't until I saw the shot with him on your finger that I realised how small they are (I thought the grass was a stick of celery...doh!). They are without doubt my favourite wee beastie, great set.

V1 is hilarious - I can't decide whether he's on the prow of a ship discovering a new continent, or delivering a rousing speech to the massed armies of weevils gathered below.

Fantastic set Carol and loving that sunshine.
The grass does look like celery!
These creatures must sense you mean them no harm.
The grass is a good contrast but V4 shows up the eye so well.
