SWALLOWTAIL ON DWARF POINCIANA . . .One from a couple days ago. The Dwarf Poinciana tree is an anchor plant in the Butterfly Garden. Every butterfly that visits the garden visits this beautiful flowering tree, some briefly but others like this lovely Swallowtail linger to nectar.
The Butterfly Garden has been very busy lately with a myriad of flying visitors. Queens, Fritillarys, Longwings, Monarchs and a variety of Swallowtails have been dropping in, some for a brief visit and others for a much longer stay. All are lovely and I am utterly amazed and thrilled with each visitor.
This is the first year for this particular Butterfly Garden and I must admit I am rather pleased. Everything planted here is either for butterfly nectaring or is a butterfly host plant (where they lay their eggs and the caterpillars feed). It is in its beginning stages and won't fully fill the area for another year or so.
