The Masked Bandit

By taggart
The Masked Bandit
aka Hummingbird Moth

Hemaris thysbe 1 1/2 -2 inches in size.
The speedy moth can be seen by a close observer these days-- sipping on the bee balm.

I was very excited to capture these images and decided to post them as a trio. I will try again as I would like to perfect this means of capturing insects who NEVER sit still!

I am sorry to have missed your images today; my excuse--a medical appointment in the near by city. And I do appreciate your attention to the Nile Crane--Thank you!

Special thanks are due to Joline and Edmund for UA's for the Spicebush butterfly!

Three fantastic images. Wow -- that 1/2500 sec. shutter speed really gave you a crisp image of those fast moving critters.
I really like the POV of V3. It makes it look like you are flying in behind your subject -- racing him to the flower. Smile

you have done very well, each time I think I got the perfect method for these lightning fast beauties they find a way to trick me next time!
so far the 400mm method seems to work best.
