Goth meets Hello Kitty16/06/2008 - 11:30 AM
Duesseldorf has the highest Japanese population of any city in Germany and one of the highest in Europe. Every year it celebrates "Japan Day" where everyone can see and try out all things Japanese and lots of young people (German even more so than Japanese) pay homage to Manga/Anime characters by dressing up and showing off their costumes! Although I'm a big Japan fan, I have to admit that I don't really get the whole manga thing - they all look like "goth meets hello kitty" to me… It makes for some great shots though and I spent several happy hours clicking away on Sat. afternoon! I'm sure some of the shots will appear in my portfolio at some point!
In the evening they also hold an incredible fireworks display over the city. To coincide with Duesseldorf's "Entente Floral" (which is the equivalent of "Britain in Bloom") activities, this year's theme was flowers through the seasons, ranging from cherry blossom in the spring to the glorious colours of autumn leaves. Needless to state, the camera was pressed into service again and some images of the display will no doubt follow at some point, too...
