Cwm Orthin

By CC
Finally managed to get out for a brief wander yesterday evening and headed up to Cwm Orthin. I've only previously been there early in the morning so hadn't realised quite how early the sun disappears in these parts! Just about manged to capture the last light in the valley.

This is a combination of 3 exposures to compensate for the fairly deep shadow, and tone mapped in Photomatix.

Any comments / constructive criticism welcomed, as ever Smile

Thanks for looking... Chris

Hi Chris!

Good to see you making good use of the rare weather we have been getting of late.

Lovely composition of an area I know fairly well as it's not far from me!

I would have liked to see a touch more saturation in this shot to warm it up a bit but that is just me.

Lovely work

Thanks for that Andy, will have another play. I work from an uncalibrated laptop (really should sort that out) so have a tendancy to over-compensate sometimes!

I was lucky enough to finish work in that area on Friday evening and it seemed too nice an evening to dash back to the Island. I have to take my chances where I can!

Cheers for the feedback.

Thanks for your kind comments on my pf and my pics. They are much appreciated. Used to live in Wales before moving to the Highlands so am keeping an eye out for places I recognise.

A stunning shot Chris and great use of HDR. I hope you don't mind me saying but I would have been tempted to set the expsoure blending to high or very high. This setting I feel gives a better overall graduation of tones and removes the tell-tall HDR look of an image. If the intention was leave the image with the tell-tale HDR look, then please please ignore everything above.

Hi all, and many thanks for your comments. I'm happy to receive any advice Chris, so thanks for taking the time Wink

To be perfectly honest I'm still getting to getting to grips with this digital photography lark. There seems to be so many possibilities and I'm still at the stage of playing around to discover what I like & dislike. I did deliberately go for a 'high' rather than 'very high' setting with this image, but I'm still undecided if this is the best option!

It was so much easier in the days of B&W negatives & a few filters for contrast!!!

Thanks again for all the comments folks... Chris Smile
