Hi Tim, a welcome and long overdue return to EPZ!
Super shot of this, one of my favourite dragonfly species (I probably say this about all of them over a year!)
Really great shallow depth of field though the one annoying thing about this species is the way the head-to-wing distance is always quite big meaning it's difficult to get both super sharp and still maintain a nice clean background.
I think in this shot however the shallow depth of field resulting in the great background works best even if the head isn't quite 100% sharp as a result.
If I'm quick enough this should be click number 30!

Thank you all for the support on this picture and to those of you who remember me, glad to be back on here!
Finally made it back to Readers Choice! I was beginning to wonder!
John, how refreshing to be put in place by a fellow macro maniac! I thought about combining two images before uploading so as to get the head sharp as well, but I couldn't be bothered to be honest! You are of course totally right about DOF compromise when going for the great bokeh shots.
Glad to here from you all,
Cheers,
Tim

A top down shot of a dragonfly in flight is about as difficult as catching a fly with chopsticks and your eyes closed.
If anyone ever does it, it will be with a very expensive laser trigger set up in the laboratory and a genetically modified individual!
Thanks for the compliment though! Wish I was that good!
Cheers,
Tim
