Blue Flight

By celestun
A hoverfly feeding on Blue Alkanet flowers...

This was taken after a rain shower, in very poor light... I had no flash or tripod, so used my knees instead!

Provence 2007

Large Version is Highly Recommended!

1/160 @ f5 ISO 400

If you like these translucent wings please check out a series I am working on of "backlit butterflies"... HERE on EPZ

It's what knees were made for! Smile
This is a lovely shot, I love the colours in the flower and fly (especially on the wings). You've caught it perfectly.

Definitely the arthritis in later years will be worth the effort Tim! Wink

Really great image under the circumstances. A little noisy maybe which surprises me for ISO 400 on the 30D, but then maybe it's because of the poor light , perhaps image reduction for EPZ contributes or is this a tight crop?

The wings are captured perfectly, translucent, but at the same time the angle of the light against them is perfect to bring out that er... translucent wing effect!?! You know what I mean I'm sure! Smile

I am presuming you still normally shoot handheld with the new lens Tim? I've still reliant on my monopod... not been brave enough to try handheld for ages now!

This one sure passes the test for sharpness!

Thank you all for your kind comments on this one!

John, the arthritis is already settling in I am sad to say!

The crop is about 70% of the original, so not that tight. Noise reduction doesn't seem to work too well in the shadows and despite the appearance of light here, there really wasn't much!

I will have to try a monopod one of these days! ;o)

Cheers,

Tim

Yee Ha...! Your lens Works... Lol.

Sharply Detailed & Sharply Focused it's also Sharp... Ha ha ha.

I've been toying with buying a longer macro lens and keep changing between the Tamron you have and both the Sigma 150mm & 180mm. Just when I've about settled on one a shot like this comes along and tips the balance.

I'll not be deciding this week then... Ho ho ho.

Brilliant Shot...!

Tony...
