Crikey! And that was handheld??

Famntastic detail! Could you let me know ISO, shutter speed and apertutre on this shot as it's blinding!!! Also, was the light good on the day? Was photographing our versions last weekend (much larger at 10-15mm I'd say) but didn't get this sharp handheld with my 70-300mm plus filter setup.

It's sunny out and I've got my camera with me so planning to go try out the 150 and 180 again in my lunch break!

Cornelia, K, John and Brett, thanks for your generous comments!

I better answer quick John if you are headed out with the test cameras! This was handheld at ISO 400, f16, 1/250th 20mm extender, no flash and lot's of bright sunshine on my back!

I have decided to start saving up for the Canon 180mm as the Sigma is too slow to catch insects in flight, which is my latest challenge to myself!

Regards all,

Hi Tim,
This is so sharp, it's scary.
Another beautiful image.
How do you like the lens other than speed?

Bl***y hell thats good! The large version is awesome!! The detail and clarity is almost too good! Together with a great composition makes this a very classy image.

THanks for that info! I tried them both in some good sunshine. I think the 150 is a little sharper, though possibly due to the shorter focal length making shake a bit less of a problem. I got some very nice results at F2.8 on that one!

I have meen tempted to spend that little bit more for the canon. Is it really that much faster? Dragon flies in flight I have taken a lot of with my current sigma 70-300 filter plus filter setup with some good results. They were taken by waiting in areas where they hover though which doesn't need so much speed.

Thanks Jean!

John I think the huge price difference is justified probably partly by the quality of the optics, partly Canons own mark up! and mostly the speed factor.

Definitely worth checking out the larger version of this. The colour and detail (especially in the wings) is first class.
Well done on your RC.
