A screamer of a shot, I fancy your chances of getting an EC for this one, excellent.

Stunning macro shot, don't normally go for insects, but this one is so unusual and a good title too. What's it praying for I wonder ?

They just keep getting better and better. Was this flash assisted or taken with natural light? The detail you have pulled out is outstanding

outstanding details...excellent...Big click!

BTW, is it possible to get a shot where everything is in focus? Looks like it is clasping its hands together, as if in prayer or somthing like that! =)

Wow, I can't believe the reaction to this one! I must thank you all for leaving such generous comments!

To answer the questions, this was taken without a flash or tripod. ISO 200, F5, 1/250th, 180mm with 35mm extension tube.

Sze it is possible to get more things in focus than I did here, but usually even the slightest wind swaying the branch which the dragonfly is sitting on, prevents the use of greater depth of field, especially for such a close up shot. In perfect conditions I could have shot this at F32, but there would be only a subtle difference in the result.

Tim

Tim - with that additional information I can only say I'm stunned. To get this much detail and DOF is incredible. You must have hands of steel to keep the camera steady!

Thanks Brian!

The steady hands are one thing, but the hardest trick with these shots is getting the dragonfly hypnotised enough to accept a 72mm lens about 6 inches from it's head! Rather like trying to bring the Empire State Building into Paris without anyone noticing!

Cheers,

Tim

Thanks Daniel, f1ash & Pip, who cares about an EC!!!, what matters is what the real photographers like!

RC is worth ten times more than an EC!
