Fantastic - I really don't know how you do it. I've got the same lens and effectively the same camera and can't get this depth of field and sharp, they either fly off or there's too much breeze or not enough light. Sometimes, when I see you win another EC for a butterfly shot I feel like giving up! Sometimes I just feel I need to try harder. So what's your secret Tim?

Wow, I really do appreciate all your wonderful comments! and to Pete for getting people to take a look!
Edward, I decided to put the answer to your question in the forum, perhaps others would like to contribute, as I feel I am by no means the best person to help!
I took a closer look at your portfolio and can't understand why you would feel like giving up at any time! There are some real gems in there, that I would be delighted to have taken. You should focus more on the popularity of your images (far greater than mine!) and less on the EC's which are really not as significant. One opinion can never replace the many!
Regards,
Tim

Brilliant yet again Tim
I just uploaded a Common Blue shot but its not up to this standard by any means. I enjoy seeing all yours and others great photo's of wildlife, it inspires me to better my own photos albeit I am slightly limited with my kit.
Well done for this and a great portfolio...click!

Nice pic. I like the complimentary blue and the orange. Well done.
P.S. Sorry to be a nerd and I am suprised that kit- monster and Rodosranger have not pointed out the obvious mistake yet but I guess it has been nearly 2 years...check out the twin spots(white with black pupils) like a colon on the underside hindwing which disrupts the natural flow of the curve of pupilled eyes running body side of the orange lunules... Also the innermost pupiled eyespots which run virtually parallel to the body. These form something of a zig-zag, whereas Common Blues don't have these attributes. Therefore =Brown Argus. Still got you an EC tho!
