RED RAG TO A BULL. Lighting, composition and mood are this picture. All the emotions of a nights boxing are encapsulated here. Had the photographer captured the main subject of the composition in focus I feel it would have detracted from the 'mood'. Superlatives are wasted here the picture speaks for itself, thanks to this photographer photography receives another much needed nudge towards being accepted as a serious art form. Asked to comment on this picture? 't'was like a red rag to a bull' many thanks. John Tindall.

you like it huh John?
thanks I sorta like it as well I had to do a lot of digital manipulation on it tho
to salvage it ...the original was ..well shall I say very very ordinary ! I must say tho that the boxer's fat" ear was real that is ...I did NOT create that ! The only "trickery "I used however was the red colouring,the enhancment of the trophy and his shorts.. and the lightening of the boxers face ...I had expected toooo much of my inbuilt flash ...Thanks for your feedback

Excellent composition Cheryl. Notwithstanding the focusing, which you've already commented on, I think its a powerful shot and its full of action. The 'real life' background is right on and considering the brutal nature of the sport - a red background seems appropriate. The colour blending around the boxer's arms is good - it doesn't look like someone posed in front of a billboard. I agree with John's comments about the focus. I don't think it really matters too much. In fact if he was pin sharp you might have been tempted to add a little blur to give it more of an action scene. I wouldn't say that I liked it (I'm a very peaceful wee lad) but technically - its extremely good and catches the mood well. If it was a competition theme, you may get it on points (yes a pun was intended)
))))

Barry ..lol ..good pun..roflmol re .."I am a peaceful wee lad"
seriously barry I appreciate ur feedback and noted what u said re the use of the blur tool to defocus(is that a word? )The boxer ! Also that it didn't seemed posed ..which of course it wasnt
tho I have to say that when the boxer saw me taking his pic ..he did put on a tuff face
he was very proud of himself ..and rightly so ..he fought well
Thanks again
Cheryl

Thanks again

Again a very interesting use of technique, you are very bold and brave posting shots that others wouldn't dare, but it is a great way to learn, I think I am going to be more draMATic in future........thinking on it I will stick on my same old path, nonetheless a very interesting shot lots going on and I can't add anything that has not already been said, I think I can see the red mist coming down.......
