Southern Hawker

Southern Hawker (Aeshna Cyanea), male.
Wing span 100mm, length 70mm. Breeds in waterline vegitation, often in well vegitated garden ponds, hunts well away from water and may often be found hawking around woodland rides. the female is brown with bright green markings.

Great focus.

I can't really put my finger on it, but for some reason it is not quite working for me compositionally. I think it may be that whilst diagonal which is usually good, perhaps the tightness to the bottom right is just a little too constrained. Will revisit and see if I can work it out later.

However, the quality in the dragonfly itself is worth a vote.

Thank you to all who voted and commented, csurrey is correct, I took three or four images as I approached this dragonfly, this the final shot which I left very little to play at the bottom of the image, plus in my, limited, experience when hanging up the tail is usually not out at such an angle. As it was the image with the best detail I decided to post it.

Fabulous macro capture of this beautiful insect David. The detail and colours are exceptional and I love the motion blur of the wings. Must be viewed large to really appreciate the huge amount of fine detail in this super shot.
