Durdle Door

By marktc
Durdle Door and Durdle Door beach, leading to the valley called Scratchy Bottom (more on that later).

Looking out of the window at 6.30 pm Wednesday I saw a lovely evening, loads of sunshine with a smattering of fluffy clouds giving the indications of a wonderful sunset ahead, so, my friend Giles and I decide to make the 1 hour and 40 minute trip along the coast to Durdle Dor and Man o War bay in Dorset. It was a fab journey and the weather still looked very promising for a spectacular sunset.... then 10 minutes before we arrived the clouds rolled in and totally obscured the sun.

So here's what we managed to capture, not the most awe inspiring, but please remember this was about 9pm and almost total cloud cover.

It was fun though and although I hate heights it was worth the effort... we will go back at some point and hopefully have better luck.

A subtle, understated beauty. Love this Mark....I don't think it would have been so atmospheric if you had the sun.

A different perspective on this icon, Mark and a lovely smooth sweep of the beach. Cloudy definitely gives atmosphere and subtle tones.

The best laid plans of mice and men..... You still managed to produce a lovely scene Mark, subtly coloured but very pleasing.

Lovely pic - I think the cloud adds to it and the long exposure has created a fabulous effect on the water

A most original composition from this spot abs most views I have seen are looking from the right of this shot back towards the stack: love the way the sea and sky seem to merge on the horizon.
