By charly16
Yesterday I went to a coal mine with nana and grandad we are starting to work there as volunteers . I will help nana in the shop and gardens , grandad will be working on the machinery . I took this shot of a winding wheel because I liked the shapes and shadows , it is about 16ft diameter . I will be takeing lots of pictures of the old machinery to show you . Thank you for looking .

Lovely and sharp - I like the way the blue wheel really stands out against the colour of the wall Smile

Hiya Charlotte ,i have been at the Astley Green Mine all day,we have been connecting two big compressers. The winding engine ,the biggest in the country ,will we hope be ready to run in April,it will then run using compressed air instead of steam. You took a good picture here of a sheave, the pully that the steel rope passed over on its way down the mine shaft.

Well done, Charlotte, both for a great image and also for Volenteering to help in preserving the heritage of the Wigan/ Lancashire Coal Mines for others Smile Love the colour and detail especially the shadow of the wheel ( or sheave as 'Grandad' explained to us ) Fantastic image, look forward to many more Smile
