I think you have achieved what you set out to do. This is a lovely enigmatic portrait.

Good luck with the competition.

I keep telling you there's nothing wrong with your monos, this is very good, only comment I could make is be careful with the textured background, there's a couple of marks on there that if you get a heathen as a judge they may mistake them as dust bunnies.

Thanks all.
Many thanks for the EC Pete, well pleased with that, now all I have to do is wait for the competition & see what the verdict is on the print !

Quote:there's a couple of marks on there

Yep,noted those Nick but I am loathe to get rid of them as they were there on the texture layer & I do enough PP as it is,they don't appear toooooo badly on the print.

I know you's me,I'm a wuss at mono ( as you know) & never think the B&W/contrast range is good enough.

This is really good! An excellent conversion to mono and a picture many of us would be well chuffed to have taken. Smile

Great to see this get the badge it deserves. On the contrast don't push it too far, you end up coming back to it and thinking, that looks too harsh (yep voice of experience) anyway nowt wrong with this at all.

And there lies the danger...too far or not far enough... they both look pants ! Wink
Thanks for your UA Nick,on a mono that means lots to me.

Soft and feminine but slightly gritty - Yes, I think you've achieved that result: Megan's expression reflects that effect exactly - a feminine but strong personality.
You always achieve such fine tones whether in colour or black and white and always with an impeccable sense of composition.
Well done!
You should do well in the competition you entered.

Beautiful shot Janet. I do not know what you are worried about with regard to your mono`s. Megan is a fanastic model and you always do her justice. Only trouble is I cannot decide if I like your still life`s more than your portraits or via versa. The quality of lighting, pose, softness of the skin tones are all first class.

I think the background works well.
A good tonal range from whites through to black.
Lovely portrait.
(I love seeing Megan in colour because of her red hair)
How would this be in sepia?

Thanks everyone. looks rubbish in sepia ( I tried & quickly removed the conversion layer),I think it's because I know she has red hair & sepia does it no favours whatsoever.Reckon I would lose that slightly gritty feel to it if I used sepia.

The eyes have it ...... just lovely.

Have you enlarged her pupils or does she just fancy you I wonder?

..... the BW conversion looks AOK to me too

Mr U !!!!!!!! Wink cheeky !
Nope, not messed with her eyes,my portrait work is usually done in a dark room with just the modelling lamp on from the studio I can see where I'm aiming Wink Guess the one modelling lamp isn't quite bright enough to reduce the pupil size Sad
Any other Brummie niggles Dave...or do I get off fairly unharmed today ? Tongue

Nah, no niggles, I like it all

Better by far than yesterday's upload for me, I liked the soft colours of yesterday but it didn't work for me without the eye contact. This is perfick, though Nick has a valid point about the textured background.

Congrats on the badge and the 20 from the judge on the night in advance.

I think Pete's award, answers your question

Quality Janet

If you're rubbish at mono, I don't know where it puts the rest of us! This is far and away the best portrait I've seen on ephotozine. Lovely model, excellent lighting and very well photographed. It was worth visiting the gallery today, just to see this photo.

Thats a good conversion Jan !

Maybe a little more light could have been reflected up and under the bow with a small angled dish she could have held. That section seems to fade to blobby black Smile

She deffo on drugs with that dilation.
