Fish trap - Ile d'Oléron

By chataignier
A traditional fish trap, Charente Maritime, W France. Low, dry stone walls built on the very gently sloping coast between high and low water form an enclosure some 100m or so across. An outlet at the low point is closed with a grid so that the water exits at low tide, but the fish remain trapped.
Shellfish, notably mussels "cement" the stones together over time making the structure very resistant.
Version shows the whole thing.

Super image lovethe way the wall meanders out to sea and the beautiful pastel colour tones of the sky.

How very clever and life sustaining for the fishermen! Thanks for my lesson for the day!
