The wonder that is the Orion Nebula.

By cheddar-caveman
I only started astrophotography in September after my wife and I, lying out on the lawn counting meteors, marvelled at the expanse of space and the wonders of everything out there.
This is my best result so far, the Orion Nebula, just visible to the naked eye in the "Sword" of Orion.
This composite photo comprises 22 pictures taken at 500mm, f4, ISO500 and 30secs with my Sony RX10M4 camera.

Wow, how did you avoid the Earth rotation with a 500mm lens at 30 secs. Impressive

I can only imagine what my wife would say if we were lying on the lawn together. Nowadays we would be unable to get back to our feet.

Seriously though this is a very impressive image and. yes, it really does make me wonder.

The camera was mounted on a Polar mount. This is aligned to the North Star and rotates at the same speed but in the opposite direction to the Earth, thus keeping the camera stationary on the subject.
The camera is set to BULB and the actual photo taking is done with an Intervalometer.
When I get a decent clear night I'll be going even deeper into this amazing Nebula by taking more, 60+, longer exposures. There is a lot more to see.
Anybody can take a decent picture of this Nebula with a tripod. A 20sec exposure at around ISO1600 will show it to you. Have a go! That's how I started!
