The panning seemed to go ok, but i think the lens was a bit short really and its sort of cheating because when the main subject is rather small in frame and the angles very wide it gets a bit easier.
seriously though, if you are going reasonably wide with the lens, you need to be close in to a bend so you are panning the car at least 1/2 of the viewfinder space to get the full effect of the speed.
doing things like this from a fair distance, you have also the problems of extranious detail like the vertical posts and burned out detail-less sky.
using what you have, id try a long pano crop to concentrate on the action,
