Captain Hook

By ChiliMan
Hey, all.

I meant to upload yesterday but whatever bug is in me got the better of me. The leaky nose wasn’t the problem. The stuffy head got too stuffed up and I couldn’t even think what to type. Me!! Fancy that Grin

Anywho, I took a Piriton before bed to (a) dry things up (which is what it’s primarily for), and (b) dopify me and ensure I had a good sleep. The sleep must’ve helped ‘cos I was MUCH better today and even went for a brisk walk in the late afternoon. About 7.5km (4.66mi) too, so it was a good one Smile

Now then…here’s something I snagged today. Bit of a skittish thing and I only got the one shot. Well…not TOO skittish ‘cos this is uncropped, so I did manage to get quite close, I guess.

Just wish I had used a smaller aperture to get more in focus, especially since I was using my extension tube – which really narrows your plane of focus. Wasn’t thinking too much at the time, though. Just wanted to grab a shot Smile Flowers quite blown out too.

V2 is a shot of another one taken on 1st June. Once again not much is in focus but you can see he’s having a spot of ‘lunch’. On a much smaller scale than Simon’s creatures, though Grin

Whoa Andrew, what a beautiful insect, and lovely portraits of it. What an interesting way it has of hunting too, with that long proboscis. I nearly called it a bug but since you are suffering from one that seemed inappropriate. Get well soon.

What a strange looking critter, Andrew, he obviously loves the lantana, like so many bugs. Two super captures, as always. Hope you are feeling a lot better now. Carol

Golden little bug Andrew, obviously yours is'nt. Piriton and a large Glenmorangie is a sure fire winner. Not sure what time you'll wake up after though.

A fine capture in V1, Andrew, but I have a preference for the older one in V2. I like the leaf background and the shallow dof, with the head in good focus.

Shallow dof looks good though, keeps the background from being distracting.
Interesting looking bug.
I just rely on something like Talisker, Laphroiag, etc. Smile

A colourful insect caught on a colourful flower, very fine macrowork indeed. Your critter may be a type of scorpion fly
