Viv 4 - Lady In Blue

By ChiliMan

NOW THEN, this is No. 4 in a series of 5.

I took my mum to her friend Vivien's place on Sunday and while there, I found lots of things to photograph. As such, I decided to precede each title with 'Viv' to indicate it's part of the same series.

Yep…I cut 2 pics from the series. I wasn’t that hot about them but you know how you just can’t let a pic go after you’ve worked on it? They’re still sitting around, though. I can’t REALLY let them go.

As for this one, there was this statue out on Vivien’s patio which I really liked. It also helped that there were these plants around whose leaves provided a nice frame from certain angles. Not really seen in this shot, though.

I took a few shots of this statue from different angles. This shot I cropped, resized, blued, lowered light with gamma correction, and then sharpened. I hope the blue’s not too over-the-top!

PS I know what you're thinking: That left index finger was VERY unfortunately sculpted.

Its a very nice shot. I think the blue is spot on, adds real nice texture and colour to it. Well worked. Andy

I 'knew' from the thumbnail this had to be yours... and IT WORKS... WELL DONE... colours/texture/detail are really good... my only one observation and it is a little one is the plant on the right hand side... maybe could've done with enhancing the colour of the leaves? (or if it was me I would've struggled and cloned it out lol)

thanks for the comments on my sp.... I am going to try all the techniques that were suggested... must have a go at this gamma correction Smile

Karen, I hear people talking about using 'curves'. Is that gamma correction? 'Cos I see a line which curves whenever I increase or decrease.

As for the leaves, they were green to start with but they got this way when I blued the pic and darkened it.

As for cloning, I've heard about that but don't know what it is!! Must look into it. Must also look into how to blacken background. Must look into a few things, actually!!! Things I'm learning from this site.

Thanks so much for the kudos and the suggestions!!

So gamma correction is 'curves'? Ahhh. I've seen people mention curves but everyone seems to use Photoshop. I use Paint Shop Pro and there's this thing called gamma correction under 'Colors'. I should really learn to use PSP properly 'cos I'd like to be able to blacken backgrounds and stuff.

I really should get a manual for Paint Shop Pro, actually! I was gonna rely on the Help Topics! lol

Nice wash with the colour/tones,classical theme, lighting, exposure and dof.Excellent work.I would clone a bit along the top to take the 'tuck' look away, the cloning brush looks like a stamp on the column on the side.Take care.AnnSmile

Thanks for your lovely comments, Christine, Ann and Trish!

Ann, thanks for the constructive crit. I found my cloning brush thing (in PSP it's two brushes side by side) and am still getting to fiddles with it.

What did you mean by the 'tuck' look along the top?

The trouble with following so many positive comments on a superb picture is you run out of superlatives! So 'Ditto' to all the compliments above! - regards Robin
