Today's upload is from an amazing palace in South India. State of the art at the time, note the different design for male & female.
Ladies & gents stone toilets! - Looking rather uncomfortable to use but interesting to see...Padmanabhapuram Palace is located in at Padmanabhapuram Fort, in Padmanabhapuram, Kanyakumari District, Tamil Nadu, India. Padmanabhapuram is the former capital city of the erstwhile Hindu kingdom of Travancore. It is about 20km from Nagercoil, and about 50km from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The palace complex is inside an old granite fortress around four kilometers long. The palace is located at the foot of the Veli Hills, which form a part of the Western Ghats. The river Valli flows nearby. The palace was constructed around 1601 AD by Iravi Varma Kulasekhara Perumal who ruled Venad between 1592 and 1609. It is believed that the Thai Kottaram was built in 1550.

These made me laugh until I realised that post surgery, I would be completely unable to use the ladies! Excellent reportage that has helped me take South India off my 'must visit' list!

I am not good at these squat toilets, have been forced to use them a few times on our travels...a bit awkward if wearing long slax and you need strong thighs to hold you....

We had in the past some, were called Turkish seats . In northern Africa ALL toilets, excepting a few hotels are like this , in hot countries are more hygienic. Nice set, great idea, trying to find here too, now....Grin
