Its a very nice shot Chris.

Youll need to let us know all your shot settings so we can be more helpful, - was flash used, what mode was the camera set to, whats the speed, aperture, ISO, - all the good stuff you find in the EXIF data.

So, driving blind (!) I think the shots appears overly yellow, - likely a white balance setting issue. it will look better with space cropped off the top to place her lovely eyes higher, about 1/3 the way down the frame.

What is great is the sharpness, great eyes, detailed and lovely catch lights, and the shot itself could be titles An Apple a Day, the Apple of my I, - it goes on...

I have loaded a mod to demonstrate my comments.

Hope you find this helpful, and remember to help us help you by loading all the details!

I rather like what you have presented - a super family shot. Being a bit on the warm side is an advantage I think - don't always have to be spot on. All i would do is crop a bit tighter to the head on all four sides and really concentrate on her face and smashing expression.

(In other words, no need to replace the background, just crop it out.)

Chris, - f8 didnt replace the background from what I see, - he applied a blur to it. You can do this by using layers and a mask, where you apply the blur to the whole shot, then using the mask, paint it in with black where you want no blur. Look up layer masks in the techniques section on the site, or juts Google for lots of tutorials. Its easy when you get the hang of it.

Hi Chris,

Set the white balance to incandescent light.

Also if you push the ISO higher, say 800 ISO you would be able to increase the shutter speed above 125th of a second, which is more suitable. F4 or f5.6 would suit this shot. Don't worry too much about replacing the background as this type of shot should be natural and the background is fine (the f-stop used will blur the background anyway).

If it can be done in camera, rather than in post-processing, it makes your life easier, and is better for improving technique.

Really, this is a super family shot. I would simply leave it alone and be pleased with what you have done.
