just a bird shot !

By chrissd
OK everyones doing flowers, thought I would do a bird shot
Daisy and I went to Brownsea Island for the day last week, I wasnt expecting to take any images like this, but when we went into one of the bird hides..there are only a few, I thought I would have a go. The only long lens I had was a 180 macro...thats what I used, had to crank up the iso to 1000 so that I could have a reasonable speed, distance was about 100 metres so this is cropped to about 1/3 actual size of image and is a bit noisy....wildlife....piece of cake SmileSmile

Well you're right that it is noisy Smile Well you did ask.

Compositionally the top 1/3 and approx left 1/5 are doing nothing for the image. But given the fact it is already a crop it probably wouldn't take this much extra chopping. I'd probably if anything have had a little more space below.

Get yerself a 500mm, great for diffused flowers in the wild as well.

Main problem with birds with a black face is getting a catchlight so the eye is more easily distinguished, not easy to do and probably not with a 180mm.

Timing is good, but it's hard to tell exactly how sharp it is.

Bet your glad you asked now Grin

Have to say though the light looks just about perfect.

love the image Chris but not sure about the crop, would like to see more space below for the bird to fly into, just a thought

I find the crop part of the attraction for me Chris. Yes - it may be soft - and the light is excellent (which was the other half of the attraction btw) but overall, this is a very pleasing image of a very difficult subject to capture. Well done.
