Freycinet Peninsula

By PeterBee
This image was made last February at Coles Bay on the east coast of Tasmania. Across the bay is the Freycinet National Park.

Unfortunately we had limited time in this area of Tasmania, arriving late one afternoon and having to leave at around 11:30 the following morning to drive to Hobart in time to catch our flight back to Melbourne. For a short spell, the evening light was stunning and I was able to grab this image from the car park in Coles Bay by the restaurant we ate in that evening.

The restaurant was “Madge Malloy’s”. The restaurant specializes in fish dishes. Madge runs front of house and her husband acts as chef and also catches the fish during the day! Much of the menu is on a blackboard and is dependant on the day’s catch! The food is as good as the view – without doubt the best meal I’ve had in two month long visits to Australia! Booking essential and highly recommended.

We plan to go back to this part of Tasmania on our next visit to Oz, hopefully in a few years time.

Thanks for looking. Worth viewing large if you can

A lovely comp but think the sea line could do with straightening a little as it's sloping from R to L,

Thanks for the feedback, Geoff. I very carefully lined up the horizon (RH side of image) when processing in Photoshop. The land on the far side of the bay is at an angle to the viewpoint, creating an apparent illusion of a sloping horizon. If I "corrected" it as you suggest, we would have the skyline slipping away to the right!

Wonderful light — I love the way it gets gradually hazier out to the distance, almost giving a depth of field effect. Also, very well composed. Good shot!
