Good morning ....TGIF
Thank you for the amazing response to my zebra ..... also to Christine (Cookie Monster) for her Oscar UA, I was chuffed.
Today the Oxpecker (Buphagus)....is a passerine bird in the starling and myna family sturnidae. They are native to the savannah of sub-Saharan Africa, from the Central African Republic and south to northern and eastern South Africa.
The red billed Oxpecker nests in tree holes lined with hair plucked from animals it feeds on. It lays 2 - 5 eggs, with 3 being the average. Outside the breeding season it forms large chattering flocks. They eat insects and can mostly be seen on the backs of wildebeest, zebra, giraffe and rhino to name a few. An adult can eat up to 100 engorged ticks a day or more than 12,00 larvae in a day. So they really are natures way of helping to relieve the animals of the burden of ticks.
However, their preferred food is blood and while they may take ticks bloated with blood, they also feed on it directly, pecking at the mammals wounds to keep them open to more parasites.
The versions are just a few more captures of oxpeckers. These oxpeckers were sitting on wildebeest and there were a lot of flies buzzing around their heads.
Have a nice day GrinGrin

That is a fantastic series of shots Colleen. In the first the little bird looks like a baby penguin and V6 with them all on the buffalo's head is a stunning image.

I need to set up a UA but in the meantime you can have my 'imaginary UA of the day'....sound of trumpets blaring triumphantly.

I got to V4 before i was convinced this was a real bird, i was sure it was a stuffed toy for a while, what an amazing little creature, so colourful and cute.
V6 is a superb picture and i would like to give my UA for that image. The look on the poor wildebeest's face, a real friday afternoon feeling if ever there was one.
V8 is also great. Excelent set Colleen Very nice work.
