Two different entities (Part-2)...

I hope you all are well and being a Guest Editor in this week, i am very happy to see that there is a lot of good images uploaded in the gallery so far in this week...As always, it is a very much challenging task...

In the capacity of the Guest Editor, i think it is my duty to view all the images uploaded here, as a result i also have noticed some comments by which i can almost hear the voices of some members...One silly conception i got from some members that forced me writing this second part...

Some members think that 'it is not a competition'...I agree with this conception, but what it is...can anybody define...

To me it is an appreciation on behalf of this site to those good images & some sort of encouragement to those who are doing good photography and contributing to the gallery...In every sites there is some kind of Awarding system to encourage its members...whenever I get an User Award from a member here, a notification i get in the mail that 'Congratulation the image has received an User Award'...but whenever i get an Award from this site in any form including the Guest Editor Award, it is written as 'The image has WON an Award'...

There should be one clear principle as i said in the first part of this blog, and if these simple principle is followed by different members with their own perspective or with their own personal visions without the veil of friendship in this community, i bet the variety in the Award Gallery as intended or desired by the initiation of this GE concept will be skilfully and honestly achieved...I believe in the name of inducing variety or creativity, we shouldn't resort to 'the vote for vote or award for award concept'...Otherwise this award system will have no standard or merit left for its existence...

The fact is that everything is minutely written in the guideline, but without following it & for some direct or indirect benefit many theories have been developed to counter its simplicity...I think some comments like 'Write up my street' is sufficient enough to give my own User Award but it is not sufficient for a GE to justify his choice...

The Guest Editor's function is to bring a fresher look and diversity to the selection of Awarded pictures, to my opinion.

A good GE should offer not only praise but support and inspiration too and conduct themselves in a friendly and welcoming way.

I can't see why people behave as they don't look the pictures in the Main Gallery.
Every picture is there to see. I look at all of them.

I recall my first choice as a GE. It was a picture I would NOT have given it my own User Award but I appreciated it for its set up and execution therefore I awarded it. It was later removed from the GE Gallery. I must admit that doing the work in my first stint was very time consuming and my partner said she felt like a "photo widow".

I had no problem to award pictures outside my favourite genres. It is only fair to award a well-taken picture. I can understand that the mission undertaken "opens" people's eyes to new genres and that is a benefit for the person who undertakes the role.

There have been complaints I awarded many pictures in my first stint. I awarded less pictures the second time. I was not aware that I had to choose the picture of the week as a GE or by when the selection should happen. Should it appear on Sunday of the last day of the stint or should/could choose it and upload it on Monday after the stint was over to give the same chances in a picture uploaded one minute before the midnight of Monday to one which was picked in Wednesday for example? I was not told so, at the time. It is a chance to clarify. I think the reputation of any volunteer for the GE's task should be judged not only by their awards but by their conduct also.
