I do like this, very much, the bright window I do find distracting so I did a quick mod and chopped it off !!
Your subject is fabulous, I love his expression.

This is a classic clicknimagine composition - quite formal, linear, but the off-centre placement gives a relaxed feel.
I'm getting to like your current colour processing - but I do hope we shall see this in b&w. Some things are meant to be... Wink

Knock, knock. No reply.

Clickimagine, this is a nice portrait and I like how you have handled the COLOUR.
Steve McCurry's work in India would have FAR FAR LESS impact if it was shot in monochrome films instead of Kodachrome. You know the reasons far better than me. India is such a vibrant place, sometimes going mono is a SIN.
(forgive me for not knowing if Hinduism has the concept of sin in it, like Christianity does. I know it has various deities of good and evil).

I like how the beige blends with light blue how the green presents itself and how red, in just a very small proportion, makes a great impact. I will insist for the case of colour here, as I sense this man too would like his turban to be. It is a matter of respect.

Years ago eager to shoot the first child of the couple I were their best man I visited them armed with my all time classic favourite black and white film, ready to leave them with some age defying photos. The mother of the child was wholeheartedly against this. "My daughter's blue eyes won't be shown blue? No way amigo". I really, really wanted to have them recorded in a black and white but after such stern resistance I did not even pull the camera out of the leather case...

Yesterday I discovered a black and white large print of a photo I have created and shot. I shot it on my mobile and contemplated if I should upload it here.
It is rather original, belongs to my private collection and it has been used to raise money for a charity that supports people with cancer. It has been a matter of discussion amongst academics in a University too when it was distributed.

Coming back to your image I propose two alternative crops, both in colour.

First image starts the crop just after the anaglyph frame of the door. The green door and everything to the right is not part of the image amymore. Green as colour remains in the picture surrounding the sign.

Second frame is just like the first but the legs are cropped just after the knees. No green door or window are left in the frame.

Enjoy!

Having spent some time going through both of your versions, and the modifications, my vote goes to v1, the original composition in b&w.

Thanks Pablo...Black & White has no relation with Hinduism, it is just a matter of Choice and i love Black & White images and i know many people don't like it, as you said one of your clients reaction to it...

Pablo if Steve McCurry does any mono image i bet that will also have same impact on the viewer because his images are examples of great compositions and stories...

Mono or colour both are a matter of personal taste and choice, you can't club it with sin in anyway...we see the world in colour, that is why we are habituated to see images in colour in the same way as we see in composition left to right or right to left...but both has merit...

And colour in this way enhances the beauty of a scene because we see the world in colour and we are more comfortable with it, but it has nothing to do with composition and light which are the basic elements of a great image...

The b&w version is of your usual superior quality, Somnath, but I find your colour version quite fascinating... the way you have processed it, with the background desaturated and appearing very flat, has resulted in an almost three dimensional effect.
I find it very striking, very attractive.

Nice image as always.

Have you used colour grading for this effect ( I dont think so?) or some other approach?

It would be nice to see the original colour version too.

The colour is excellent; the monochrome, classic. I can not choose between the two, so they share my award.

Clickimagine, I do like black and white too but I understand when to use it. Would have I used it when a red Vespa with the Italian flag parked behind a red Fiat 500? No I wouldn't.
By the way I meant to say that the man may not have wanted his turban anything else but red, not because Hinduism has association with black, in Christianity is a mourning colour, but I thought for the man his red turban had something to do with his cast, or his religion, so I would better leave it red and beige.

Black and white is not a panacea or a way to treat the ill world. Unless you refer to X-ray photographs. Or you are unfortunate to be born colour blind.

Having said that and to prove my point my next upload will be a spiral shaped durum wheat pasta laid on a black tray.
Do you need to see its beige colour? No.
So it is going to be shown in black & white.
