I'm a general photograph out to try new fun techniques.
I take inspiration from what I see and try to put my own twist to it.

  • Hi,
I'm wondering if anyone has had this problem and was able to repair it themselves. The flash is just out of warranty and the shop wants 150 to look at it.

Basically I stick the flash SB700 on the hotshoe on ttl mode and it only fires on low power. I figured out quickly it was not the settings or the camera.
With a bit of twisting the flash on the hotshoe, not much play, only a few millimeters if that, I got it to work.

So my question is - Is there any way to re-allign the contacts on the SB700 without sending it back to Nikon ?

Update - the first thing I did was clean the contacts with an eraser and then used an air blower to remove and dust or particles left over.
I'm only assuming that they are not properly lining up because I can put a bit of pressure on one side of the flash and it will work fine. All the springs seem to be ok too.

I'm hoping its something simple. Was considering putting a little wedge between the hotshoe and the flash to give a better fit.

    Thanks

    Ciarán
  • I was hoping tor some shots of the meteors but sure what can you do... Can't see them up here either.

Any this weeks winner is Brian.
  • FYI, there is a meteor display happening this month Wink
  • You will need a tripod for this one. Have fun
  • Thank you all for your input.
I have purchased the 105vr and have done some test shots which I am happy with. --- http://ciaranfitzgerald.deviantart.com/art/Orange-Splash-351497273

These are only test shots and I am hoping to get out and about with this lens once the weather improves. Hoping for birds and insects shots.
Wish me luck. I am holding off on the multiplier for now. we'll see after a few months if I need it or not. Thinking about a 300mm f4 lens. Just thinking though
  • Thanks for all the feedback here. I really appreciate it.

I am thinking more towards the 105vr with an AF converter would be a good all rounder.

It will make a nice christmas present to myself Smile
  • I like doing macro and will be purchasing a dedicated macro lens shortly.
I'm torn between the - Nikon 200mm f/4D AF Micro-Nikkor IF-ED Lens or the - NIKON AF-S VR 105mm Lens f/2.8G IF-ED I know there is quite a difference in price between the two but would like some opinions.
I photograph both still objects and general nature, bugs and stuff. Would either one have any alternative uses ??
