After 50++ years behind a camera I have sold all my equipment and just have a small pocket camera. Why?
Look at your very best image and then look on the internet, there's 1000's more like it. In the UK (as a wildlife photographer) I am tired of all the territory restrictions... you can't put a hide up here, you can't park your vehicle there, you can't walk there etc. I have been restricted and constricted to a point where I feel trapped in some kind of small cube.Sad
I don't want the services of a 'guide' to show me where to point my camera, Blush I like to find my own subjects not pay someone to find them for me, what is that all about? Use fieldcraft not your wallet. One local 'wildlife photographer' told me a guy in Norfolk nearly 100 miles away had put a hide up to an avocet's nest for him. He was so proud of that and that he could afford to pay the guy. However, if he had explored his own area he would have known that only ten miles away there was an avocet sitting eggs, in front of a public wildlife trust hide but then he would have had to have looked for himself. What a sad era we are living in at the moment, a sad, lazy boring era.
The only photography that intrigues me nowadays are those unique images created by (real) fine art photographers who create wonderful images from a scene that may have looked so 'normal' to some. One of these fine art photographers once explained it this way to me, "today's landscape images are like holding up a flatbed scanner to the scene, then printing it." How right he is.
