Today some Warthogs...( these are for you Fred)
The warthog is a member of the pig family. The name comes from the four large, wart-like protrusions found on the head of the warthog, which serve as a fat reserve and are used in defense when males fight. The warthog is the only pig species that has adapted to grazing and savannah habits. Its diet consists of grasses, roots, berries and other fruits, bark, fungi, insects, eggs and carrion. During the wet season, warthogs graze on short grasses as seen above.
Although capable of fighting the warthogs primary defense is to flee by means of fast sprinting. The warthogs main predators are humans, lions, leopards, crocodiles and hyenas. Cheetahs are also capable of catching warthogs. Martial eagles sometimes prey on piglets. Warthogs are not territorial, but instead occupy a home range. Warthogs live in groups called sounders. Females live in sounders with their young and other females. Warthogs are seasonal breeders. The gestation period is 6 months and a typical litter is 2-4 piglets.
