Good morning.....
Thanks for your great response to my Lioness and her cubs yesterday.
A special thanks to Jenny and Ayoob for awarding me their UA's. It makes the 40 hours i spent capturing these wildlife images all worthwhile.
Today I thought i would give you a break from animals and share a beautiful sunrise. We always leave the lodge while its still dark so that we can get to a clear vantage point for sunrise shots. We had only been out 10 minutes or so when our Ranger stopped and said we had a flat tyre. It was the second one of the trip. In winter the thorns from the Thorn trees are deadly as they are dried out and hard like nails. They are as long as a finger as well. We had been off road the night before and must have picked up the thorn. thank goodness this happened in the early morning and not late at night with all those eyes watching us. Yes you have to get out of the vehicle while he changes the tyre. this is not for the faint hearted as its still dark and there are wild animals around. Anyway the sun started rising and this is the image I captured while standing shivering from cold and fear.
I will upload some pics of the thorns and the Ranger changing the flat tyre just for interest sakeGrinGrin
Have a nice day

We believe you Colleen.

I really like this picture.
Everything about it appeals - even the Ochre frame picks up the great light in the shot.

That's a fab sunrise shot through the trees which make an interesting f/g pattern.
And your narrative sounds quite scary.
I can imagine how easy it must be to collect a puncture with thorns that size.
And I am always amazed at how giraffes manage to curl their tongues around thorn branches and pull off leaves yet not damage themselves on the thorns.]
I ramble on as usual....sorry.
Ronnie.

A glorious sunrise, Colleen, and perfectly captured. I wouldn't like to have to change a tyre under those circumstances, it must take nerves of steel Sad Carol

Whilst your image of the beautiful sunset is so very beautiful, I am rather intrigued as to the Thorn Trees. We came across these rather nasty buggers whilst working in J=Kenya. The certainly don't take any prisoners that's for sure.

Another great set Colleen, keep them coming...

A gorgeous sunrise Colleen with those silhouetted trees and thorns!
It is good to get an insight into a safari trip as I think we visualise a rosy picture.
I'd never thought about changing tyres in those circumstances,
so now we can appreciate even more yours and other photographers images taken in a natural habitat.

Appropriate Colleen, we had a puncture in the African bush whilst chasing Painted Wolves hunting. We lost them in the descending dusk and had to change the tyre, for us a bigger adventure, as it was flat !!!!! spent some time marooned in the bush till help arrived ( listened to Lions roaring, Hyena's whooping, Elephants trumpeting, it was fantastic !! along with a glass of wine) Africa.............

I'm not an expert on African wildlife (or other chaps' bottoms for that matter) but I've just spent a little time looking through your portfolio, Colleen, and I'm still no wiser.

V1 is delightful, V's 2-5 scary. Those thorns look lethal and the idea if changing a tyre with lions about is terrifying.

We got a flat tyre in France this morning on the way back to the tunnel, tyre ruined. Fortunately we were near a garage and the absolutely charming staff there rescued us in time for is to get to our crossing on time.

There are times when you are on safari in Africa that seeing a bum pointing at you is just frustrating. However I think in these circumstances the bum shot is probably a lot better than the view from the other side? I can hardly call you brave in these circumstances, cheeky, but that's as far as it goes!!!!
