Galata tower

By ColleenA
Good morning....
thank you for your continued support and to John (lonely_oryx) for his UA, and to Kate (Irishkate) for hers....both much appreciated.
I am still loving is so vibrant and it never seems to sleep, there are still traffic jams in the city streets at 1am in the morning.
Galata towers is a witness...a witness to the City of Istanbul...An alive witness 1500 years old...As much as it is a witness to the Genoese merchants, it is to the Venetian is a witness to Byzantium, Hagia Sophia, as much as it is to Suleiman the Magnificent....t is also witness to the boots of the army of occupation...also to Churchill and Agatha is witness to the death of the the poets of the Tulip is also a witness to Mustafa Kemal's rowing trips. A witnessed revolutions and movements, betrayals as well as loyalty.
Now all of these have faded into history....and the Gelata Tower has been left to the future from the past as a souvenir with its head up in the clouds...
The other versions are scenes from around the city
Have a nice day...we board the Crystal Serenity today for a 12 day Med cruise. We only set sail tomorrow evening at 11 pm so have 2 more days in Istanbul.
We visit Kusadasi, Mykonos,Santorini,Monemvasia ,Valleta in Malta, Taormina in Sicily, Sorrento and finally dock in Rome.

A fascinating insight into the beautiful city of Istanbul, Colleen. And next a 10 day Mediterranean cruise, whereabouts are you sailing to? Carol
Very intersting set, Colleen; makes me want to pack my suitcase again...
Although it is only one hour flight from Tel Aviv I have never been there.

Wonderful images Colleen, a fascinating city full of interest and contrast, both in its architecture and its people.
As with all cities the mix of ancient and modern, wealth and poverty, all jumbled together trying to survive and
make it to the future. Thank you for taking the time to share it with us.
Enjoy your last 2 days there.

I think Istanbul is going onto my bucket list with your wonderful varied images of what looks like a very vibrant city
and my next door neighbour who did a tour here from her recent cruise and said, she'd like to go back.
Your narrative of the city's history was most informative and much of it I know nothing about.
I won't single out any images apart from V9 with the coffee and bag shop - the arty one and the sort of places I'd be in!!

A place steeped in history indeed Colleen.
But you forgot to mention that the football team I support
was knocked out of the European Cup by Fenerbahce in the 1980's !!
